Hon. Parliamentarian Lamjav Gundalai, former Mongolian Minister of Health to Visit Taiwan
5/28/2007
Hon. Parliamentarian Lamjav Gundalai, former Mongolian Minister of Health, and Hon. Parliamentarians Choinzon Sodnomtseren and Tseren Jargal are scheduled to visit Taiwan from May 28 to June 1, 2007. The delegation will meet with Mr. David Chung, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Yuan, James C.F. Huang, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister Hsu Chi-hsiung of the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission, Mr. Andrea S.Y. Lee, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Cooperation and Development Fund, and Mr. Hank Du, Director of World Vision Taiwan.
Mr. Benjamin Liang, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will host a luncheon in honor of the parliamentarians, who will also be visiting the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 and Yehliu scenic area.
Parliamentarian Gundalai took office as Minister of Health in early 2006, and openly supported Taiwan’s bid to participate in the World Health Organization at the 59th World Health Assembly that year. The then Minister Gundalai appealed to the international community that political concerns should not affect global health cooperation or else the international epidemic prevention network would be undermined. The government of Taiwan is grateful for the firm support and just comments of Parliamentarian Gundalai.
Mr. Gundalai joined the Democratic Party in 2000 after he won a seat in parliament. Mr. Gundalai again won in 2004 and served as the deputy chairman of the Democratic Party from 2003 to 2005, but left that party to establish the People’s Party in 2005. This is his second visit. Parliamentarian Sodnomtseren is a member of the Democratic Party while Parliamentarian Jargal belongs to the Motherland Party, and this marks their first trip to Taiwan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that this visit will allow the parliamentarians, who represent the people of Mongolia, to better understand Taiwan and will help the development of bilateral relations between Taiwan and Mongolia.(E)
